Basic monolithics are unshaped, chemically basic refractory materials primarily composed of magnesia (MgO), dolomite, and spinel (MgAl₂O₄). Unlike shaped refractories such as bricks, monolithics are installed in-situ to form seamless linings after setting, drying, and firing.
