CAPES Update: Entering a new phase of commissioning and operations

As we move into the second half of 2025, the CAPES (Calderys Plant in East & South India) project in Odisha continues to gain momentum, with key infrastructure now entering trial and commissioning phases.

This major greenfield project—Calderys’ largest single-site investment globally—was designed to meet growing demand in the Indian refractory market with advanced production capacity and world-class sustainability features. Since the beginning, CAPES has symbolized innovation, scale, and our long-term commitment to the region.

Key progress highlights as of July 2025:

  • Office & quality control infrastructure
The first floor of the office building is now operational, allowing teams on-site to begin their transition into the new facility. Work on the electrical and IT systems for the upper floors is actively progressing, along with the installation of advanced lab equipment for the Quality & Process Control (QPC) center.
  • Precast pre-fired line
One of the most exciting developments is that the Precast pre-fired (PCPF) line has entered its commissioning stage, with successful trial production completed on June 21. This marks a pivotal moment in the site's production readiness.
  • Acidic and basic bricks lines
The erection of the acidic bricks production shed and associated infrastructure is progressing steadily. The shed for acidic bricks finished goods, as well as that for basic bricks, are also making significant headway.

  • Basic monolithics line
The trial production with graded materials took place on June 3, while the erection of the crushing and grading line is now underway. The team remains on track for an official go-live in August 2025, as per the project plan.
  • Utilities and support infrastructure
Essential facilities including electrical systems, compressors, fire hydrants, and canteen services are all advancing toward completion, further preparing the site for full-scale operations.

What’s next?

With each passing month, CAPES continues to transform from a construction site into a more functional, cutting-edge manufacturing hub. The site’s phased production rollout remains on schedule, with commissioning activities for multiple lines either completed or underway.

Stay tuned for further updates as we bring this landmark project closer to completion—and closer to the future of refractories in India.
