CAPES Update: Our major greenfield refractory and steel casting plant investment in India progresses well
The CAPES project, which started last year, marks a significant step forward in Calderys’ global growth strategy and showcases our dedication to delivering tailor-made, superior-quality products and services to our customers in India. Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President & Managing Director of the Asia Pacic region of the Group, emphasizes: “To our knowledge, the CAPES project represents the world’s largest single-site greenfield plant dedicated to refractories and steel casting fluxes.” Ish adds, “This is an incredibly exciting milestone for Calderys, as it strengthens our ability to serve the growing demand in the region with enhanced capacity, efficiency, and innovation.”
A Snapshot of the CAPES Project
Located in Bhuinpur, Khordha district, Odisha, this 40-acre site will feature five state-of-the-art production lines for acidic and basic bricks, monolithics, ready-shaped products, and steel casting fluxes. The plant will also house advanced quality testing facilities to ensure our products meet the highest standards. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, with phased commissioning of the manufacturing lines.
CAPES: Latest Updates
Significant progress has been made on the CAPES site, including:
- Administration and Quality & Process Control Building: Civil construction is complete, and interior work is underway.
- Shed and Utilities Construction: Civil activities for these structures are currently in progress.
- Major Equipment Procurement: All major equipment orders have been finalized.
The team is ensuring that we stay on track for the phased commissioning of production lines:
- Acidic Monolithic Line: Scheduled for commissioning in the first phase.
- Basic Monolithic Line: On track for commissioning in the next phase.
A Vision for Excellence and Sustainability
The CAPES project goes beyond expanding Calderys’ production capacity—it embodies our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. Designed with sustainability at its core, the plant will reduce carbon emissions through green fuel and solar energy, utilize harvested rainwater for washrooms and gardening, and maintain 33% green cover within its premises.
Advanced bag filters will control dust emissions, while a zero-effluent discharge system and an STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) will ensure responsible water management. Additionally, the use of recycled materials reinforces our dedication to sustainable development.
Looking Ahead
As the CAPES project moves forward, we remain committed to keeping our customers, partners, and stakeholders informed about its progress. Stay tuned for further updates as we bring this ongoing project to life.
