Calderys and HWI showcase glass solutions at Glassman Europe
Glassman Europe provides a platform for the glass industry to present the latest innovations and technology for environmentally aware production and processing of glass containers. The exhibition allows visitors to meet some of the most innovative companies shaping the future of glass manufacturing. The event format is a niche trade exhibition where attendees can arrange meetings with several suppliers and industry experts in one place.
Through their combination, Calderys and HWI offer an extended portfolio of products and services to high temperature industries around the globe. Through its brand HWI, A Member of Calderys, the Group provides the largest refractory manufacturing capacity to the glass industry in North America.
A full portfolio of solutions at the service of Glassmakers
As a supplier to the glass industry, Calderys will showcase its full portfolio of refractory solutions for:
- Art glass
- Container glass
- Fiber glass
- Float glass
- Technical glass
Calderys can now offer a European production of a selection of HWI’s refractory bricks. This allows glass producers to benefit from the existing offering of HWI, directly on the European continent.
The Group’s dedicated glass application specialists, including our experts from HWI, build custom solutions, troubleshooting issues, develop technical papers, conduct refractories training, and offer a variety of consultation services. Calderys’ refractory products meet the demands for strength, wear resistance, and insulating properties through its extensive network of production facilities on the 5 continents.
Capabilities in hot & cold repairs
For hot repairs, Calderys typically utilizes monolithic refractories, bricks or precast shapes that are chrome-alumina, fused-silica or zirconia-mullite based.
Melt line overcoat: for the sidewall block back-up, the Group offers refractories that have excellent thermal shock resistance while being able to withstand glass corrosion during the furnace’s service.
Monolithic overcoat: a full line of products that can coat or seal melter, refiner or regenerator crowns. These monolithic materials are available in various package sizes for efficient installation.
Superstructure repairs: sometimes, it is necessary to replace a burner block, a breast wall block, or to patch a hole using standard size bricks. In addition to material considerations like thermal shock resistance, delivery and availability of precast shapes is critical.
For cold repairs, Calderys applies veneers to the bath side walls and bottom of fiber glass by utilizing chrome-alumina products.
HT Regenspray: insulating material for regenerators
HT Regenspray is a mineral wool soluble spray insulating material. Fiber-based, it is suitable for continuous use at temperatures up to 950°C. HT Regenspray has been used extensively to seal & insulate Glass furnace regenerators external walls all around the world.
Key Features
- Can be applied in thicknesses ranging from 25 to 100 mm
- No need for furnace shutdown for the installation
- No cracking of the lining due to movement of regenerator walls ensuring best insulation
- No need for dry-out
- Can be applied on existing brickwork
In the case of both container and float glass tanks, one of the major sources of heat loss and thus cost is from the regenerator walls and roof. A thin veneer of HT Regenerator Spray on the walls effectively seals all ingress of air and egress of gases through cracks in the structure as well as reducing heat losses.
HT Regenspray is applied using specialist machines which chops / blends the material, blows it to the workface via reinforced, anti-static hoses.
Glass producers that use HT Regenspray benefit from:
- Energy & cost savings: At least 30% reduction in heat losses, leading to savings in energy consumption and money.
- Safety: Non-combustible, does not contribute to smoke generation and improves personnel safety in the vicinity of the regenerator walls.
- Smooth installation: Retrofitting of existing tanks done quickly and safely. No dust or rebound losses. No dry-out required.
Precast shapes for glass furnaces
The fireclay flux bottom precasts are clay-based refractories which are precasted at the Calderys production sites according to glass makers specifications. They are designed for:
- end-fired and cross fired melting tank glass furnaces
- melting tank bottoms
- doghouses
- throat bottoms
Calderys has successfully applied fireclay precast blocks on glass furnaces worldwide, thus providing a lower carbon footprint solution to the glass industry.
This product complements the full portfolio of products produced by HWI and Calderys’ partners, making Calderys a clear choice for a complete bottom refractory lining.
