Calderys launches HWI Copper Refractory Products in EMEA
Paris, France - July 23 2024 – Since February 2023, when HWI joined the Calderys Group, trans-Atlantic technical teams have worked hard on a technology exchange program to bring HWI’s innovative, tried-and-tested copper refractory products and services to Calderys’ EMEA customer base.
HWI copper refractory solutions are now available in EMEA in a variety of brick and castable formulations that withstand high temperatures and the erosive and corrosive effects of slag. These ground-breaking refractory products were designed to enhance the longevity of production units by providing exceptional protection in high-wear areas, in primary and secondary processes as well as in copper foundries.
“HWI has a long history of innovating refractories for copper applications, and we are proud that after extensive testing, Calderys can now bring this product range to our customers in EMEA from our Haznedar Durer production site in Türkiye.” said Aurélien Cadars, Calderys Senior Vice President, EMEA.
HWI was the first to introduce Alumina-Chrome refractories to the industry, and also pioneered technology to help optimize the life of production units through specific application of products that provide extreme protection in select high-wear areas, and extend the campaign life of a unit.
”The products newly-available in the EMEA region comprise refractories engineered to meet the specific lining demands of primary smelting, anode, and secondary copper furnaces, as well as copper converters.” said Salih Erez, CEO of Haznedar Durer, a subsidiary of Calderys. "They come in addition to the bauxite and andalusite based castables that we already produce. We now have an extended and stronger offering for EMEA copper producers.”
Included in the HWI products available in EMEA is AUREX® 30 SR EU, an Alumina-Chrome brick with 30% Cr2O3. This product provides in-situ formation of a corrosion resistant layer that yields superior resistance to copper-oxide, which is generated during intense refining steps. It is resistant to acidic glassy slag, often generated during secondary copper refining, and is engineered with a thermal shock resistance to withstand the temperature changes inherent in batch processing.
