Calderys celebrates the internal opening of new Innovation Center in EMEA

Calderys celebrated the internal opening of its new Innovation Center in Neuwied, Germany on Friday, 19 December—marking a major step forward for refractory research and development across the EMEA region.

Located adjacent to Calderys’ largest European production site, the 3,000m2 facility is designed to enhance collaboration between Innovation, Quality Control and Production teams. It features advanced equipment for high-temperature testing, chemical and mineralogical analysis, and modular R&D spaces tailored to evolving industry needs.

This Innovation Center will support all of Calderys’ core markets, including foundry, iron & steel, aluminum and cement, helping customers navigate challenges related to performance and the green energy transition. By combining cutting-edge tools with local expertise, the center strengthens Calderys’ ability to deliver tailored refractory and metal casting solutions.

During this celebration, Michel Cornelissen, President & CEO of Calderys and Bruno Touzo, Global Vice President Innovation & Technology were present. Bruno Touzo, who oversaw the construction of the Innovation Center, said I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this project: from design and construction to equipment, safety, IT, HR and Operations, as well as the local and global teams who supported it along the way. A special thanks to Jong Won Shin, EMEA Innovation Center Director who has been instrumental in building this new center.  This center is the result of strong cross-functional collaboration and a shared commitment to innovation.

As part of Calderys’ global R&D network, the Neuwied Innovation Center joins facilities in the United States and India, underscoring the Group’s strategic focus on research, quality and customer support.
